About Island Airways: Island Airways is 'The Put-in-Bay Airline' and has been serving the 'Lake Erie Islands' for over 90 years. Based in Port Clinton, Ohio (PCW), we are a 'vital link' for residents and tourists, providing year-round passenger and freight service to Put-in-Bay (South Bass Island) and other local islands. We fly a 'unique fleet' of 'Ford Tri-Motors' and 'Britten-Norman Islanders'. We are seeking a 'community-focused' VFR Pilot who is also a 'team player' and willing to perform 'Customer Service' duties. This is a 'hybrid role' perfect for a 'new commercial pilot' ('no experience' in Part 135 required, we provide training) who loves 'flying' and 'interacting with people'. Your New Career – The Role: This is a 'dual-role' position. Your 'primary' role is as a 'VFR Pilot' for our 'short' (10-minute) but 'high-frequency' flights between Port Clinton (PCW) and Put-in-Bay (3W2). You are the 'Pilot in Command' (PIC) responsible for 'safe flight operations', passenger safety, and navigating over Lake Erie in 'all VFR weather'. Your 'secondary' role, when you are not flying, is as a 'Customer Service Agent'. You will work in our small terminal, 'answering phones', taking reservations, 'checking in passengers', and 'loading baggage and freight' alongside the rest of the team. This role requires 'excellent flying skills', 'strong customer service' abilities, and a 'roll-up-your-sleeves' attitude. 'Everyone helps load the plane'. The Training – Your Foundation for Success: 'No experience' in Part 135 operations is required. We provide a 'comprehensive, paid training' program to get you up to our standards. This includes: * 'Aircraft Indoctrination:' Ground and flight training to make you an 'expert' on our BN-2 Islanders and (if qualified) our 'vintage Ford Tri-Motors'. * 'Part 135 Operations:' Detailed training on our operations, FAA regulations, and 'over-water' procedures. * 'Short-Field Operations:' You will be trained on the unique procedures for flying into the 'island airports'. * 'Ground Ops Training:' You will be trained on our 'reservations system', customer service standards, and 'cargo/baggage loading' procedures. A Day in the Life – What to Expect: Your 'day shift' starts at the 'Port Clinton Airport' (PCW). You'll check the 'weather over the lake'. You'll 'pre-flight' your Islander. For the next hour, you might be in the office 'answering the phone' and booking a 'charter flight'. Then, you'll help 'check in' your 8 passengers, 'weigh their bags', and 'load the bags' onto the aircraft yourself. You'll 'personally brief' your passengers on safety (acting as 'both pilot and flight attendant'), then 'fly them' across the lake to the island. You'll land, 'unload their bags', and pick up the next set of passengers or 'boxes of freight' heading back to the mainland. You may make '10-15' of these short 'hops' in a day. This is a 'fast-paced, hands-on' job where you are 'constantly' interacting with customers and 'part of a small family'. 'Weekend shift' work is required during the busy summer tourist season. Why Island Airways? This is a 'rare opportunity' for a 'new pilot' to build 'quality flight time' (PIC time) in a 'unique and beautiful' setting. You will become an 'expert' at 'short-field' operations. You'll be part of a 'historic' airline and a 'vital part' of the 'Lake Erie Islands' community. We offer 'competitive pay', a 'stable schedule' (home 'every night'), and the 'unbeatable lifestyle' of living and flying in a 'vacation destination'. This is a 'fun, fast-paced' job for a pilot who 'loves to fly' and 'hates being bored'.
